Coleman 9949-750 Road Trip Grill, Red

Coleman 9949-750 Road Trip Grill, Red Review

See more picture

After reading some of the reviews I almost took this back, I'm glad I didn't. Don't expect to cook on high with the top down, your talking 20,000 btu. BUT I don't think you'd ever need to. I have cooked twice on this so far BBQ corn (6) and hot links(10)and BBQ corn (8) and (4) large pork tenderloins. The first time I set this thing on low closed the top and walked went to get everything else ready... I about cremated the corn... my fault I should have paid more attention the first time... the links cooked nice and even across both sides. Had more people over this time I set the controls under low closed the top and in about 15 min the corn turned out perfect, boosted the temp to just over low, this was enough to give the loins a good sear dropped the temp to just below low turned and checked temp of meat about every 10 min. and ended up with one of the best pork tenderloins I have cooked, grill marks, evenly cooked. They not only tasted great they looked great. I have cooked the two meals on one 1lb propane canister and still some left... that's about a .25 per meal way cheaper than charcoal, and now that I know I'm keeping it I'll hook it up to a 20 lb tank and cook even cheaper, It has plenty of power and room to cook for 6 if not 8 adults at a time fast, a big plus if you have tried to cook of a group on an underpowered small grill. It also comes with a 5 year warranty... So far so Good....

Coleman 9949-750 Road Trip Grill, Red Feature

  • From Coleman, 36-inch collapsible propane grill for use at home or on the road
  • With 285 square inches cooking space, grill features porcelain-coated cast-iron grates for durability and cleaning ease
  • Meats cook over 2 10,000 BTU straight burners; requires separate purchase of a 16.4-ounce disposable propane cylinder
  • Additional features include towing handle, wheels, and detachable side tables; assembly required
  • The collapsed grill measures 36 by 22 by 13 inches with a shipping weight of 60 pounds; limited 5-year warranty
Take the convenience, efficiency, and versatility of the household barbecue grill on the road this summer with the clever Roadtrip Grill LXE from Coleman. Whereas other portable liquid propane grills are petite and tabletop in design, the Roadtrip LXE is a full-size grill with collapsible scissor legs for countertops or travel. This 36-inch grill features 285 square inches of cooking space, ideal for toting to the beach or just into the driveway a small block party. Two 10,000 BTU burners cook meats evenly. Independent control knobs allow users to adjust temperatures on either burner for flexibility.

The grill comes equipped with two warp-resistant cast-iron grill grates, coated in porcelain for cleaning convenience. Two side tables attach to the grill's sides for extra preparation space and store neatly under the grill. A grease tray catches drippings, sliding out for cleaning. The grill is outfitted with an Instastart electronic ignition. The grill affixes to a standard 16.4-ounce disposable propane cylinder, or can be hooked up to a 20-pound tank with an additional accessory purchase. Burning on high with a propane cylinder, the grill operates for 2.1 hours, while low settings allow operation for up to 4.5 hours. A heavy-duty vitreous lid cased in painted steel contains flames to reduce hazard while barring access to bugs and debris. The collapsible legs feature two wheels on one end and a wide handle on the other for towing. To clean the cooking surface, use mild detergents and avoid steel wool. Coleman offers several interchangeable Roadtrip cooking surfaces, including a stovetop and griddle, for separate purchase. This grill requires assembly. Coleman offers a limited five-year warranty for this item. Collapsed, the grill measures 36 by 22 by 13 inches with a shipping weight of 60 pounds. Propane is not included. --Jessica Reuling It's even easier to transport, and quicker and easier to set up at a tailgate party, campsite or any other location where fun, food and friends get together. Like the original RoadTrip Grill, the LXE features authentic open flame grilling, two powerful burners that are fully adjustable, electronic ignition and uncommon cooking versatility thanks to mix-and-match cooking surface options. However, a cleverly designed new stand distinguishes the LXE model from its predecessor. The X-shaped chassis is wheeled for easy maneuvering in both the upright and collapsed-for-transport positions. It sets up quickly and provides excellent stability for cooking, thanks to the simplicity of the scissor-like leg and frame design. Two side tables integrated into the unit slide out for grilling and cooking duties, then retract under the unit in a moment's motion for travel and storage. Because the grill is affixed to the stand and the lid features a locking mechanism, the unit is secure and steady while towing it to and from a vehicle using a convenient pull handle. The Coleman Roadtrip Grill LXE is designed to be used completely assembled. If table top use is desired - simply hand remove the 4 plastic cap screws and start cooking! The Roadtrip Grill LXE is easy to assemble - Push on wheels and insert plastic handle and it is ready to use! New tool holders and stainless steel carry handles added for convenience. The LXE fits into most auto trunks/SUV's.

Love it! - D. Lahmann - Olympia, WA USA
We've been going cheap for a few years now, getting little travel/table top grills that we have to replace each year. We've always done charcoal (you can get some REALLY cheap charcoal grills#, but our new apartment has a small deck #not much space) and charcoal is not allowed.

Now -- we have one that travels easily (like our old, cheap charcoals), that we can use over again, and fits perfectly on our small deck. We looked and looked, and were about to pounce on the Weber Q, but this was way cheaper.

Even though you can't cook with the lid closed, it doesn't matter. Our food has always come out perfectly juicy and full of flavor all the way through - never over-dried. We've only had it for a few months, but have done kabobs, chicken and steak. Each meal came out incredible!

The Road Trip Grill is the perfect balance of cooking capability, portability, sturdy design, easy cleanup, and the price is right! And I'm in love with the fact that it's RED!

Oh yeah, and it has little table tops that slide in and out. So it's handy, too! There's just nothing that compares!

Good, but rather delicate - S. Reisman - Los Angeles
The BBQ comes with one grill and one griddle, if you intend on using it as a BBQ, you'll quickly need a 2nd grill to make the whole stove-top a grill surface. These grills are aluminum and while they move the heat very quickly, they also don't carry it as long or as even as the iron version. The upside is that they're lightweight and relatively easy to clean. One downside, upon my first use and being careful, some of the teflon already started coming off the top edges...I seriously doubt they'll last very long, so be extra super-careful and don't let anyone near them with anything but a soft-plastic or heat-tolerant rubber.

Dangerous grill - Robert C. Zornes - Silverdale, WA
When I first purchased this grill and then for the next year or two I also thought it was terrific. Then things started to go haywire.

The lock that keeps the top fastened to the bottom was poorly designed. It eventually loosened and now one either had to hold the two pieces together or put an elastic ("bungee") cord around it or it will comes apart.

Next, the grease cup caught fire. If that wasn't bad enough, it is located right by the propane cylinder. We were able to extinguish the fire before it heated the propane bottle but not before the grease cdup melted.

THEN, while pre-heating it, the center of one of the grills completely melted through. I read the instructions before using te unit and I recall it saying not to COOK with the lid closed. I have absolutely no recollection of it saying not to PRE-HEAT with the lid closed. Net result: Another grill for .

As I can't readily locate my instruction manual, I'll need to find one online or somewhere to see if there is a warning about that. If so, then it's my fault. If not, then Coleman has a potential disaster on it's hands.

In any event, I've reported it to the Consumer Product Safety Commission after having gotten no satisfaction from Coleman other than them saying "the lid isn't supposed to be down."

If you buy one, make sure EVERYBODY who uses it knows that under no circumstances ever put the lid down while the flame is on. Most people who grill a lot are used to following the cooking instructions of always pre-heating--don't do it with this grill.

It fit perfectly and looked great for all of about 2 weeks. I keep the grill covered when I'm not using it, but the heat plate still began rusting almost right away. It still functions fine, but will likely need replaced again next year.

Weber 1520 Propane Gas Go-Anywhere Grill

Weber 1520 Propane Gas Go-Anywhere Grill Review

See more picture

I just purchased this little grill to primarily use at the beach and while camping. Before actually bringing it out in the field, I was able to test it a few times at home; first by cooking some stuffed jalepenos and a few hamburgers, and second by cooking a couple small strip steaks. The stuffed jalepenos and hamburgers came out great, and had lots of flavor (actually better than my full sized Ducane gas grill). I'll admit that this grill does not produce the heat that my full sized charcoal grill does, therefore I didn't get the perfect sear on my strip steaks that I'm used to. Nonetheless, the steaks came out quite tasty and my wife commented that they were some of the best I've cooked. In the little Weber's defense, I think the propane tank was getting really low so that could have very well reduced the available heat. The green 16.4 oz propane tanks work wonderfully in this unit so I just picked up a 4-pack of those from Sam's. Another thing that surprises me is how well this grill is made, taking into account the cost. I'm an engineer and am therefore always looking for flaws in the quality and design of everything and I immediately noticed that this is not your cheap run of the mill store brand grill. The steel seems to be of a thick gauge, coatings are of very high quality, handles are well designed and insulated, stainless steel burner, propane valve seems to be of decently high quality, etc. I couldn't have asked for much more for the price! In summary:

Pros:
Inexpensive
Cooks well, with excellent flavor
Well designed and high quality
Very portable

Cons:
Doesn't seem to get quite as hot as a larger grill
Effected by wind (remedied this by placing in a large disposable aluminum cooking pan with sides)
Small cooking area (you can't have both a compact grill and a large cooking area)

Hope this review helps!

Weber 1520 Propane Gas Go-Anywhere Grill Feature

  • Propane gas grill with easy-to-use push-button ignition system
  • Patented heat-distributing Flavorizer bar
  • Pivoting legs lock lid in place, add safety
  • Triple nickel-plated cooking grate provides 160 square inches of cooking surface
  • Sturdy porcelain-enamled cooking box and lid resist rust
Weber's Go-Anywhere gas grill adds convenience to the fun of camping and tailgating. This compact unit has a surprisingly generous grilling area--large enough to fit four medium steaks. The push-button ignition system makes lighting the fire easier than ever, and the patented heat-distributing Flavorizer bar ensures that your food cooks evenly and efficiently every time.

You can lock the lid into place with the pivoting legs and carry this lightweight grill around in one hand. Built-in lid hangers allow you to rest the lid on the side of the grill to create an effective barrier against the wind. The triple-nickel-coated steel grate is easy to clean, and the porcelain-enameled steel lid and cooking box are built to last. Here is the perfect grill for the beach, camping, or a weekend getaway to the lake. This portable grill features Weber's patented Flavorizer System, which distributes heat evenly across the cooking surface, essentially eliminating flare-ups.
